Our Coaching Philosophy

Skill Development

We focus on mastering basketball fundamentals through targeted drills that enhance shooting, passing, and defensive skills for all levels.

Character Education

Our programs emphasise respect, resilience, and leadership, helping athletes build strong personal values alongside their athletic abilities.

Teamwork

We cultivate collaboration and communication on and off the court, encouraging players to support each other and work as a cohesive unit.

Holistic Growth

Beyond skills, we nurture mental toughness and decision-making to prepare athletes for challenges in basketball and life.

Continuous Improvement

Our coaching adapts to each athlete’s progress, promoting consistent development through feedback and personalized training plans.

Global Perspective

We integrate international experiences to broaden players’ understanding of diverse playing styles and cultural approaches to basketball.

"FUN"damentals

We believe that bringing joy and fun back into basketball is essential to player development, as athletes who enjoy the learning process are more engaged, confident, and motivated to improve, allowing them to develop and retain fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, defensive movement, and game awareness more effectively while fostering a lifelong passion and appreciation for the game.

Jamie Payet

Jamie is a basketball educator, mentor, and community leader with more than 30 years of experience in the sport. Holding a Level 2 Basketball Coaching Qualification, he has dedicated his career to developing athletes, coaches, and programs that place equal importance on skill development, character, and fostering a genuine love of the game.

Through his work across grassroots and representative basketball, Jamie recognised a significant gap in the development of fundamental skills among junior players, inspiring him to create development pathways focused on strong foundations, basketball IQ, decision-making, and long-term athlete growth.

As the founder of basketball development programs operating in both Australia and the United States, Jamie provides athletes with access to high-quality coaching, international learning opportunities, and unique basketball experiences.

A strong advocate for player-centred coaching, he believes that great basketball is built on understanding the game, not simply playing it. His philosophy is captured in his guiding belief: “The game is played in the head, not the hands.”

Rosemary Morris

Rosemary has spent more than 30 years involved in elite and grassroots sport, with extensive experience as a referee, coach, mentor, and program developer.

She was the first female to referee men's games at the elite basketball level in Australia and have coached across junior representative, SEABL, and Melbourne Tigers development programs.

Holding a Bachelor of Sport Development (Coaching and Exercise Science) and qualifications in Training and Assessment, Her passion about creating positive sporting experiences for players, coaches, referees, and families is of the highest priority.

As the founder of “Shifting The Game”, she has developed competency-based accreditation pathways for coaches and referees, focused on participation, skill development, leadership, and community impact.

The mission is simple: help young people learn to love sport, build confidence and life skills, improve physical literacy, and create lifelong connections to healthy, active communities.
